Niños de Guatemala (NDG) runs a school called Centro Educativo Nuestro Futuro (NF) which currently has 197 students in preschool through 6th grade. Nuestro Futuro is at full capacity with the students, 18 staff members and anywhere from 2 to 5 volunteers a day in the building.

This project will see 11 bathrooms, 4 urinals, and 18 faucets being built in NF, all to prevent children from waiting to use the bathroom and missing class time. The goal of this project is to reinforce proper hygiene in the schools and use health promotion to help prevent the spread of illness. This is essential for students who often lack regular health care.

Nuestro Futuro grew quickly due to the high demand to attend the school, a direct reflection of the services provided by the organization. NDG understands that for students to be successful in the classroom, they must lead healthy lives. For this reason, NDG is committed to more than the education of its beneficiaries and provides programs that address the wellbeing of their students, their families and the community throughout the year.

  • Volunteers will stay in homestays and take a local bus to the worksite every day. Their NDG Trip Leader will accompany them on the bus.  They will have running water, electricity and flush toilets.

  • SOS groups generally work for about 6 hours a day, for 8 days of the 14 day trip.

  • Every group is overseen by a foreman during construction days and any work requiring technical training will be financed by SOS
  • You’ll have the late afternoon/evenings and two rest days throughout the trip to relax, explore the local area and participate in the local community.
